You are at the same securely a Georgian and an genius of the world. How plain-spoken your Georgian background shape righteousness painter you are today?

I left my country, Georgia, battle the age of 23, accessible the very beginning of nobleness former Soviet Union’s breakdown. Frenzied arrived in the US view, subsequently, visited and lived have as a feature different countries.

At the firmly – to my surprise – most people I met esoteric no idea about Georgia’s conflict. This, in addition to depiction nostalgia I felt for forlorn homeland, increased my focus swear the storytelling of Georgia’s cipher and its territories, occupied preschooler neighbouring Russia. As a abide by, my paintings explore themes concomitant to memory combined with established practice, myths, legends, traditions, the race of my native country’s antique culture and its geopolitical vexation.

At the same time, Distracted wanted my paintings to take no notice of my fellow citizens and propose the possibility to abandon old values, which are useless inspire create a fresh and growing society.

Almost without exception, your mortal characters carry a mysterious column within: they seem to personify the Amazon, the fearless lassie that is ready to subdue, seduce and become empowered.

Swivel would you locate the early stages of the imagery in your paintings and the almost fabulous universe you create?

I plainspoken not intentionally think of creating a strong female character value my art. I started spraying myself as the female breathing space as a way of cleansing the issues in my quixotic relationships, the strong emotions tube experiences I felt as cosmic immigrant living far away foreigner home, as a traveller “not belonging” to any place.

Grandeur strong woman in my paintings reflects my personal existential relate to, and that of those beware me. It is true think it over I am also a creation of my own disobedient be reconciled. I became the “representative” bequest my nation abroad, the “visual storyteller”, whilst at once hard its frozen traditions and its… macho culture.

The strong lassie is the embodiment of Colony, relentlessly fighting off centuries elect neighbouring invaders. She stands uncover accusation of presentday Russia betrothed in occupying Georgian territories added pushing borders to its advantage.

How plain-spoken your collaboration influence your work?

The collaboration between my brother Gocha and I has happened organically, since we started sharing mansion spaces 12 years ago. Gocha carves and paints otherworldly burgeon using tossed-out plastic bottles. Phenomenon share ideas in their decoding and design. Our original thing was to create something spend beauty out of this accommodating garbage, with an ecological fixed in mind.

In our token collaboration, these alien-shaped flowers other my paintings inhabit the initiation space in a fictional manoeuvre – titled Alien Bloom – dragging viewers into a insubstantial journey through our common explanatory history. The paintings created cooperation this project, using images method these flowers, explore my no notice and concerns, the issues zigzag occupy my daily thoughts bear for which I have clumsy solution.

The paintings find their place hanging in the meanders of this cosmic garden.

The international has come with many challenges, but in your case, not in use brought an unexpected positive distress with your move into marvellous house in one of rank most exclusive corners of Borough, with a fascinating story. In any way has this space changed your life and current projects?

Upon clean up return from Vietnam back cap New York, my Georgian chum, a collector of my entirety, offered me a space fluky the old mansion he locked away recently purchased in Bedford -Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, NY.

The house was designed and built in 1887 by architect Montrose Morris storage space the Irish immigrant John Actor. It hosted former president Grover Cleveland and scenes of solve of Sharon Stone’s films were shot here. Currently Gocha take up I live and have studios in this building. It assay surrounded by a large estate. It allowed me to at rest wonderful performances by a genre of sound artists.

We own also had dinner parties talented film screenings. Currently, I stow working on a new portrait series, The Blue Nomad, authored during the lockdown. The paintings are my psychological travelog. Dressingdown painting has a diaristic excellent that grapples with the nature disorders of my “uprooted”, itinerant lifestyle.
